Innovative trace analysis

Using state-of-the-art glow discharge mass spectrometry (GD-MS) technology, we analyze high-purity high-tech materials such as silicon, germanium, indium, gallium, rare earths and high purity copper, silver, gold and other metals in 5 and 6-N qualities.

The use of these materials in photovoltaics, electronics, aerospace and in many other modern industries requires neutral quality control by an independent institute.

We at ELMASPECS GmbH are the right contact for precise element trace analysis. A reliable method with high accuracy and efficiency is used for the investigation of trace, ultra-trace impurities and major elements.

Co-Founder & General Manager

Element Mass Spectrometry Services (ELMASPECS) GmbH

Peter Glörfeld started his career in 1967 as a laboratory assistant at the Westfälischen Kupfer- und Messingwerken company in Lüdenscheid after his practice-oriented training (1962 -1967). There he learned the basics of chemical analysis of copper alloys as well as the mechanical-technological and metallographic testing methods.

From 1969 to 1972, he studied nuclear chemistry at Aachen University of Applied Sciences, in Jülich. From 1972 to 1976 he led the development and research group of the Dürener Metallwerke company, then after took position for managing the semi-finished casting division of Cu and Al alloys.

In 1977 he founded an independent chemical analysis laboratory called „Institut für Materialprüfung Glörfeld GmbH“, (www.img-labor.de), in Willich. Till now he leads the company as a General Manager. The main focus of the company is on the analysis of precious metals present in various kinds of materials by means of fire assay in combination with modern instrumental techniques for certifying and arbitration/adjudication purposes.

From 1992 to 2015 he was publicly appointed as a sworn expert of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Mitterer Niederrhein, IHK (Krefeld, Mönchengladbach, Neuss) for the quality control and injure investigation of non-ferrous metals.

In August 2018 he founded a new company, together with his colleague Dr. Myint Myint Sein, “Element Mass Spectrometry Services (ELMASPECS) GmbH” in Willich. Their main field of work is on the analysis of traces and ultra-traces in highly pure metals, alloys, compounds as well as in coating layers by means of elemental mass spectrometric techniques.

Co-Founder & General Manager

Element Mass Spectrometry Services (ELMASPECS) GmbH

Dr. Myint Myint Sein obtained her PhD in analytical chemistry from the University of Yangon, Myanmar in 1999. While doing her doctoral studies in the University of Yangon, she won a DAAD scholarship from Germany, and did her PhD thesis at the Department of Instrumental Analytical Chemistry (IAC) of Gerhard-Mercator University in Duisburg. After her PhD, she worked as a Lecturer in Chemistry Department at the University of Yangon, Myanmar, till 2002.

In August 2002 she came to Germany and worked as a research scientist and was involved in various research projects at IAC in the University of Duisburg-Essen (UDE). From 2009 to 2011 she did her post-doc studies there, where she worked as a research scientist and was involved in various research projects.

After that, she continued her career as a research scientist in the field of elemental analysis based on X-ray Fluorescence Spectrometry (XRF) at the University of Rhine-Waal in Kleve till 2016. There, she and her research team were awarded the University prize of economic development in the region of Kleve. In 2016, together with a partner company, they patented their new finding from their research project.

Since July 2016 she has been a member of a group of the Institut of Materialprüfung Glörfeld GmbH (www.img-labor.de) in Willich as an Executive Assistant at the beginning. Till now she has been working as General Manager, also involving in the field of elemental analysis by means of modern instrumental techniques including Glow Discharge Mass Spectrometry (GD-MS).

In August 2018, she founded a new company together with her colleague Mr. Peter Glörfeld “Element Mass Spectrometry Services (ELMASPECS) GmbH” in Willich. Their main focus is on the analysis of traces and ultra-traces in highly pure metals, alloys, compounds as well as in coating layers by means of elemental mass spectrometric techniques.

Employee and expert for GDMS analyzes

Stefan Knecht finished his study in business chemistry at Heinrich Heine University, Düsseldorf in 2014. The course provided him competencies in both chemistry and economics. Mr. Knecht did commendably well in chemical analysis in his final assignment.

After completing his studies, Mr. Knecht began working in various fields of chemistry including the chemical analysis at a manufacturer company for the high-purity aluminum products in the early 2016 till the middle of 2021. The main focus of his work was the trace analysis of high-purity aluminum samples using optical emission spectrometry (OES) and glow discharge mass spectrometry (GDMS).

Since October 2021, Mr. Knecht has been employed at ELMASPECS GmbH, where he now applies his many years of experience and know-how in the field of GDMS analysis. The main area of work here includes sample preparation and analysis of high-purity metals, alloys, compounds and coatings using element mass spectrometry GDMS.
Meanwhile, Mr. Knecht is involved in the development of new analysis methods for sample preparation, optimization of existing processes and also in research and development projects in ELMASPECS.
